Ask us for a helping hand

Thanks to our new community project Community at Heart, your organisation, charity or group can now ‘borrow’ a team of hands, minds, ideas or skills for a whole day - completely free of charge.

From Spring of this year, we’re offering each of our 20,000 employees the opportunity to take a day out of their typical working life to support local community projects.  This means that you can ask a team of our employees to work with you for you for a day!  From crushing boxes, to crunching numbers – as long as it makes a difference to what you’re trying to achieve, we are willing to help!

The project has been launched to support initiatives that are happening on our doorsteps.  Gillian O’Reilly, Community Volunteering Manager describes the project as “an opportunity for staff to actively make a difference to things that they are passionate about outside of work.”  When asked how it all began, she said “Although our organisation stretches across the UK, we still operate, very much, at a local level.  And supporting the communities around us is something that’s very important to us.  Our chief executive set us a challenge to make a positive difference to local projects and Community at Heart was brought to life.”  

She continued; “The great thing about the project is that it has very little restrictions.  From DIY and clean up operations to projects that involve strategic planning – our employees can offer various types of help.  We’ve many talents across the company – so hopefully we’ll be able to offer lots of different help to lots of different people.”

The scheme will be launched in May this year and soon SSE employees will be out in the community helping organisations just like yours to achieve their goals.
