  • Remove a pay as you go meter

  • Our credit meters give you more choice with the different tariffs that are available. And you can get our biggest discount when you pay your bills by monthly Direct Debit and choose paperless billing.

But we also have a range of other ways for you to pay, so you’re bound to find something to suit you.

    Arranging a meter change

Arranging a meter change is simple – just contact us and we’ll be happy to help.

We want to make sure a credit meter is suitable for you before arranging an appointment. So we’ll probably carry out a few checks, such as checking your payment history.

Question  Is there a charge to remove a pay as you go meter?

If you’d like us to remove your pay as you go meter, we’ll charge you £52 for the work involved.

There are some instances where we’d do the work for free. If you’ve just moved into a new home with a pay as you go meter, we’d expect you to keep that meter. However, if you’d like to remove it and were supplied by us with a credit meter at your previous home, we’d consider your payment history before making a decision.

We’ll also ask you to set up a monthly Direct Debit to pay your bills on your new credit meter, so please have your bank details ready when you contact us.

Changing an electricity token or Smart Card meter

If you’ve got a token or Smart Card meter, you could be paying older and lower prices, until it’s adjusted by us. And you’d be expected to pay the new prices from the price change date, not the date that your meter is adjusted. If your meter hasn’t been manually adjusted for a long time, you could also see quite a jump in the prices you pay for electricity.

To avoid problems in the future, we’re replacing all token and Smart Card meters with modern key meters. These meters are more reliable, easier to use and are updated electronically when prices change. To support this change, you can charge your new key at over 19,000 PayPoint sites across the UK or at your local Post Office.

If you’ve got a token or Smart Card meter, please contact us and we’ll arrange an appointment to install a new key meter for you free of charge.
