  • Generate heat from thin air

The air in the Earth's atmosphere contains a lot of warmth from the sun that can be captured and put to good use. Air Source Heat Pumps can operate in temperatures as low as -20ºC taking heat from the air and transferring it to your property. Although they do use some electricity, they are significantly more efficient than traditional fossil fuels.

Air Source Heat Pumps require very little maintenance and are one of a number of renewable heating technologies being considered by the Government for inclusion in an incentive package designed to encourage the use of renewable energy sources.

  • Air Source Heat Pumps

    • Captures naturally available solar thermal energy even at sub zero temperatures
    • Reduces dependency on fossil fuels and cuts CO2 emissions
    • Can provide all of your home’s heating requirements
    • Government grants may be available

  • How they work

    • Natural warmth in the air heats a refrigerant liquid
    • The liquid then evaporates and is compressed, (a bit like a bike pump compresses the air in a tyre) increasing its temperature
    • Energy is transferred from the hot refrigerant vapour through a heat exchanger to the home's heating system
    • The cooled refrigerant leaves the heat exchanger after reverting back into its liquid state
    • The refrigerant is then expanded, causing a reduction in its temperature and allowing the process to start again.

    Easy installation

The Air Source Heat Pump is a box shaped unit which can either be fixed to an outside wall or ground mounted and connected to the domestic hot water and heating system. It's sometimes necessary to resize or add radiators to make sure sufficient heat is delivered in the home. Any adjustments required will be properly specified during the survey.
